Antes de incorporarse al Instituto de Ciencia Política, fue investigadora pos doctoral en el Global Research Institute en el College of William & Mary (EE.UU.), Becaria Fulbright-Hayes en Colombia e investigadora visitante en la Pontifica Universidad Javeriana en Bogotá, Colombia.
Sus intereses de investigación y docencia están enfocados en temas de paz y conflicto, violencia política, justicia transicional y los movimientos sociales, con énfasis en la región de Latinoamérica, particularmente Colombia. Sus investigaciones pasadas se han concentrado en la transición de movimientos sociales a partidos políticos en Latinoamérica y el impacto de violencia política en el comportamiento electoral. Ha sido publicada en PLOS-ONE, Comparative Politics, PS: Political Science and Politics, Politics, Groups, and Identities y The Journal of Peacebuilding and Development.
